Open space plans given go ahead by council

8 January, 2014

Ashford Borough Council has approved plans to create an open space at Brisley Farm close to Coleman’s Kitchen Woods near Singleton.

The open space is intended to help connect Ashford town centre with surrounding areas including Chilmington Green’s proposed Discovery Park, along with Ashford Community Woodland and the Singleton Environment Centre.

The £300,000 project, funded by section 106 finances, will include new footpaths and a play area with mega slide and extra high swing. The open space will serve children, families and young people alike, with much of its design drawing on the site’s historic significance. The play area will recognise the site’s Iron Age heritage, and a commemorative plaque for RAF serviceman is also planned. The site is located adjacent to Iron Age woodland, and was the location of a 1944 bombing in which RAF servicemen were killed.

A bespoke art feature for the site is also planned and the project is expected to be completed by mid-2014.
