Chilmington Green wins prestigious industry award

6 February, 2014

Chilmington Green has won the award for Strategic Planning at 2014’s Placemaking Awards.

The Strategic Planning category recognised Chilmington Green’s master plan, designed by architects John Thompson & Partners (JTP), as an entry which ‘demonstrated how a development plan or master plan has, or will have, a positive impact on the physical or environmental quality of a place or the economic or social well-being of its community’.

The Chilmington Green master plan sets out a vision for a garden suburb outside Ashford that will comprise 5,750 homes, with a high street and market square at the heart of the development.

Ian Bull, spokesperson for the Chilmington Green consortium said: “We are delighted that Chilmington Green has been recognised by the Placemaking Awards, and are looking forward to delivering a quality development that the community can be proud of.”

Clare San Martin, Partner at JTP, collected the award on behalf of her team and said: “We were delighted to receive the award for a master plan that reflects our client’s and Ashford Borough Council’s commitment to high quality sustainable design, and to working collaboratively with local people.”

Cllr Gerry Clarkson, Leader of Ashford Borough Council, said: “This award is welcome news. We pride ourselves on ensuring quality development and at Chilmington Green we have set demanding requirements from the outset. I am in no doubt that it is this thorough approach that has led to this accolade. Of course, it doesn’t stop there. We will continue to strive for excellence through the Quality Agreement that we have negotiated and agreed with the developer team. We are confident this will ensure that future residents of Chilmington Green will be proud to live there.”

The Placemaking Awards were held on 28th January at the British Museum in London.
